Company Background

Clean Agency is committed to creating a paradigm shift in international business, driving sustainability issues around environmental and social responsibility, by providing companies with the knowledge and solutions to change the way they do business.

Launched in 2002, Clean was formed by CEO Seri McClendon, with the anticipation that corporate social responsibility would change the fundamental business model. Much of Clean’s early years were spent educating corporations on the understanding of sustainability and how it affects everyday business decisions. While there was a great amount of interest, the challenge lied in implementing these ideas to shake up the current “business as usual” process.

In 2005, McClendon received her masters in Geography with a focus in industrial ecology. She was then appointed to the USC Center for Sustainable Cities advisory board. It was at USC that McClendon met and recruited Dr. Robert Vos, Clean’s research director and industrial ecologist. Dr. Vos has built a robust research team to service the growing client demand for research regarding supply chains, life cycle assessments and product environmental footprints.

With a strong marketing and communications background, Clean is effective in communicating the importance of sustainable business strategies and the opportunities that surround them. Christopher Kahl, Executive Director, Strategy & Communications, is instrumental in getting the sustainability message out to key stakeholders to implement many of the key findings of our research team. Clean has always believed that we must influence behavior through effective education and communication once the research is complete.

Over the past eight years, Clean has seen ideas such as “green” and “eco” settle into the realities of product life cycles, carbon offsetting and corporate social responsibility reports.  As more and more companies began to take notice of consumer perceptions around environmental performance, Clean is positioned to both drive and facilitate corporate sustainability initiatives.
