Clean took the show on the road this month with a visit to Chicago for the Corporate Responsibility Officer Summit and to Portland, Oregon for the American Life Cycle Assessment Conference. Seri McClendon, Clean CEO, attended the CRO Summit November 3-4 at the Union League Club where the focus was on the "sustainable workforce" with speakers from Boeing's Global Workforce and other job development panelists. One of our favorite speakers over the weekend was Marcus Norton, Founder of the Carbon Disclosure Project, who talked about the ambitious and relatively new CDP Water Disclosure Project . The Water Disclosure Project collects water-related data from global corporations and uses it to better gauge the water risks and opportunities present in our marketplace. Also in attendance were government representatives, NGO's and corporate officers. If you'd like to learn more about the CRO Summits click here .

In Portland Christian DelMaestro, Clean Research Associate and Certified Life Cycle Assessment Professional (LCACP), attended the ACLCA's 10th annual conference November 2-4. Talks and working sessions throughout the 3 days of the conference provided Clean access to the most cutting edge work currently happening in the rapidly evolving field. Topics covered of specific interest to Clean and its clients were sessions on LCA regionalization, design, water footprinting, and industrial adoption of LCA. We've got exciting news for consumers! The FTC has released their proposed revisions to the "Green Guides", the standards which define the specific environmental claims that marketers can make. The goal of the revised Green Guides is to increase the transparency of environmental claims on product packaging so consumers can better understand the implications of their purchases.

The proposed Green Guides caution marketers against making general claims such as "environmentally friendly" or "eco-friendly", and provide more precise requirements for the use of certain specific claims such as "compostable" and "degradable". The proposed updates also provide guidance on some new areas that were not addressed in previous versions of the Green Guides, including use of phrases like "renewable materials", "renewable energy" and "carbon offsets".

The Green Guides are currently open for public comment until December 10th, after which changes will be finalized. If you'd like to read more just click here
